COMMUNICABLE DISEASE CONTROL

 

Epidemiological investigation and follow-up, with the institution of appropriate control measures, when a local outbreak occurs; reporting to the state of all communicable disease cases.

 

HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAM

 

Disease prevention and health promotion education through use of pamphlets, posters, videos, and programs by health department staff.

 

DENTAL HEALTH PROGRAM

 

In cooperation with local school boards, fluoride supplements are provided to children living in areas with non-fluoridated water supplies, and other eligible school children.

 

 

SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASE EDUCATION PROGRAM

 

Materials are provided to area schools for education on sexually transmitted diseases and to private physicians for education and testing. All services are free and confidential.

 

ADULT HEALTH TEAM

 

Provides extensive diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular education and in-service programs to area professionals involved in direct patient care; community based group patient education on cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular risk, and individual counseling provided through the local health center's.

 

VITAL STATISTICS

 

Maintains records of all births and deaths; provides verification of the same, upon request. Issues permits for burial, transit and disinterment.

 

FIRST STEP, KENTUCKY’S EARLY INTERVENTION PROGRAM.

 

Participates in the Child Find system by screening infants and toddlers for potential eligibility for early intervention services. Identifies early signs of atypical development in a child. Refers a potentially eligible infant or toddler to a designated Point of Entry after the child is suspected of needing services. Discusses the need for referral and the referral process with the family.
